New Year's Day is usually a time for celebration, reflection and a look forward to exciting things ahead.
But for several families waking up in Greater Manchester this morning, the start of 2020 began with unthinkable tragedy.
After an awful 24 hours on the roads, three men lost their lives, one man was left fighting for his life and three other men remain injured in hospital.
Three separate families received the devastating news that they had lost a son, father, husband, uncle or brother after horror crashes in Stockport, Fallowfield and Heywood.
Four others are still waiting to find out the fate of their loved ones.

Stockport

Emergency services at the scene of a collision on Wellington Road South in Stockport 
A motorcyclist in his 30s was killed on the A6 in Shaw Heath, Stockport after a collision with a BMW 3 series on New Year's Eve. 
Police say the crash took place at about 7.50pm after the BMW turned right from Wellington Road South and collided with the oncoming motorbike.
The biker was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.
A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing death by dangerous driving without due care and attention.
She remains in custody for questioning.
A motorcyclist in his 30s was tragically killed in the crash 
PC Phillip Shaw, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, appealed for witnesses.
He said: "A woman is in custody but our enquiries are ongoing and we would like to hear from anyone with information or dash cam footage.
"We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw the car or a motorcycle in the area in the minutes before the collision as we believe they may be able to assist us with our investigation.
"If this is you, I would encourage you to contact us as soon as possible."

Fallowfield

The scene on Yew Tree Road, Fallowfield 
A taxi driver was killed and four others were seriously injured after a horror crash in south Manchester.
Pictures show a scene of devastation after the collision on Yew Tree Road in Fallowfield, which occurred in the early hours of New Year's Day.
A Skoda Octavia - believed to be a taxi - collided with a black Mercedes C43 AMG at around 3.30am.
The 59-year-old driver of the Skoda died in hospital after the crash.
Three men were taken to hospital with serious injuries, while a fourth is in a critical condition and fighting for his life.

Inspector Danny Byrne, of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, is appealing for witnesses to come forward.
“This is a tragic incident in which one man died and five others were injured on what should have been a night of celebration – our thoughts are with them and their loved ones as our investigation continues,” he said.
“I would like to use this opportunity to ask anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact us as soon as possible.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw the black Mercedes in the area prior to this collision.”

Heywood

Police scene on Heywood Old Road 
A man in his 20s died after his car hit a wall in Heywood on New Year's Day morning.
Police were called to Heywood Old Road in Birch at about 11.20am after the man's grey Toyota Yaris hit a brick wall near the junction of Doctor Fold Lane.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed while officers carried out investigations but has since been reopened. 
An investigation has been launched and police are appealing for information.
